TOP TIPS FOR GROWING HEALTHY NATURAL GROWING HAIR

Welcome back !

I have probably done an article on this topic.

I am 100% sure I have, but let's revisit this topic.

Ten tips for growing Natural Healthy Growing Hair

1) Keeping your hair moisturize with water

Water helps the body to process and flush out toxins faster, our bodies are made up of a considerable amount of water. This can be broken down by age, body, and weight. Water like pills and supplements is not a magic trick. These methods and products promote strong hair which will lead to growing and longer hair.

*make sure to drink lots of water
*mist your hair throughout the day, make sure to do this everyday
*It promotes healthy growing hair, and clear skin

2) Trim your hair

The longer your hair the more your ends have been through. Hair can get damage by environmental conditions, and styling equipment's, harsh shampooing, this can be severe if not address.
Trimming can prevent sparse thin ends, split ends and help prevent fairy knots.

*some people trim every 6-8 weeks and that is optional
* I trim when it is necessary for me to do so. I simple pay attention to the ends of my hair

Curls and more curls

Bantu knots:

Bantu knots have to be one of my favourite for elongated our natural hair structure. It does not matter
what your hair type this style will help you achieve a wave patterned, or curls you desire. This really
depends on how you do them.

You can choose to braids, twist, or just wrap your hair into a bantu knot. Know that each style will
give you a different look, but ultimately the variety is great and easy to achieve.

Below are a few videos of Bantu Knots I have done to my own hair over the past two years....

In the first video this was early on in my journey, I did have a few pieces in my hair, I love using them to create highlights and more fullness... in my natural hair..also note that I do wear wigs now...

If you'll notice that my hair went through alot of growth but I definitely enjoyed each look at each length.

Curlformers

Personally I have never used these but after watching many youtube videos I love the definition
they can give your hair. Also temporarily altering the patterned of your hair.

Flexi-rods

Another one of my favourite especially for achieving fullness with natural hair.

Havana Twist

how long did it take? 2-2.5 hours

What type of hair did you use? marley braids

did you burn the ends? no, I simply braiding them all the way down

how many packs did you use? I used 4-5 packs mixed colours as well

how long are these havana twist/marley twist? They are bra strap length

how long do you intend on keeping them in? for about two weeks, they are pretty big so I doubt they will last longer

what did you do to prep your hair for this look?

I deep conditioned my hair and stretch it for one day by simply twisting it, however I think had I twist it for longer/elongate my hair through this method it would have been much better

The hair cost about 5.99$ a pack and come in a variety of colours.

Products I used:

giovanni leave in
home shea butter leave in
castor oil
coconut oil
olive oil
eco styler gel
marley braids
wide tooth comb
fine tooth comb

Happy Healthy Tuesday: TIP OF THE DAY

Hey y'all, Happy Tuesday, hope your all having a wonderful start to the week. I have a treat for you all today, some of you may have already viewed this video but once in a while it is nice to remind ourselves while on our journey, no matter what journey you are on, why you wanted this. From time to time your minds may change and that's okay. As long as it's what you believe is best for you and always in a positive light of course. I really wanted to stress how important when on this hair journey, fitness journey, self-love journey- patience and love for yourself is so important.

I have complied my top 3 helpful tips....

1) Learn to love yourself

Loving yourself means loving the good, the bad, the ugly about who you are as a person. When you learn to do that you can really work on the bad and the ugly and become a better person to yourself and to others.

 2) Appreciate the things you have accomplished in life

It really is okay to celebrate life and to live life to the fullest. Goals are meant to be met, so when you meet them reward yourself. Sometimes even for trying you should reward yourself. Remember your reward doesn't always have to be expensive, it could as simple as getting a manicure or relaxing at home with some candles.

3) Be patient, Be Consistent

It is so important to take one day at a time on this journey, not every journey will be met overnight. Some take a really long time. As you will see in the video posted below patience is the key to growing healthy, long  hair, whether it be locs, or maybe uou just want healthy hair and length doesnt interest you practice, consistency and patience

Simple Hairstyle to Adorn on a simple day

www.dejavunaturals.blogspot.com
There are some days where I want to just throw my hair in any old thing and really create simplicity from my natural hair texture. I wont lie to you some days this seems to hard to even think about or bring myself to do.

Recently I decided that it is imperative to remind myself of all around care that means hair care, mind and body. Despite how lazy I may get, I know we all have those days and I am definitely not alone.

I found the best ways to protect my ends is to simply put my hair in a bun to protect the ends, Right?!?

I think so, anyways I been trying more styles with my hair some fun, some weird, some unique and some well
I just love. I think my most amazing styles for me is the most creative. Which I will share in the future.

I should add that I am really enjoying my new camera. I love the quality Ill be able to provide you with.

Achieving the Perfect Bantu Knot

For me achieving the perfect Bantu Knot is really simple. I spend very little time on my hair
when it comes to style. I find as my hair gets longer I want simple, easy to do, cute styles.

Over the summer I achieve the perfect bantu knot style. I absolutely loved it and the colour
was clip-in extensions I use to achieve this look.

Remember to enjoy every moment of your hair, relax or natural

Products you will need:

Wide tooth comb
coconut oil
leave in conditioner ( I use Giovanni leave-in conditioner)
Black castor oil
water/aloe vera gel
edge control (optional for your edges to stay down)

Steps:

1) Make sure your hair is detangled properly and clean

2) Apply your leave in conditioner, oils (jojoba oil, coconut oil)

3) Comb the product through your hair or use your fingers to rake it through

4) Twist your hair as you would doing two strand twist and wrap the hair around itself until you
get a small ball. or bantu knot. Many choose to just gather the hair and twist it until you achieve
the bantu knot. It reallydepends on what look you are going for and definition. I wanted alot of
definition so I did two strand twist my hair first

5) To add the extension sew clips (you can get these from any hair store) on to your extension.
I only added about four small pieces to add some dimension and colour to my end result.

6) If you choose to use clip-ins remember to also do Bantu Knots on them as well

I will post a video on this style. I probably wont be doing this style anytime soon.

Here is a great video detailing each step...I love these two ladies...Enjoy

As always thanks for stopping by and come back soon!

P.S I HOPE ALL MY AMERICAN FOLLOWERS HAD AN AMAZING HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

My Natural Hair Regime 2012 Update

Hey all it:s been such a long time since I have update you all. I have a brief update on my hair and how
I am wearing it now. Pics are below.

wwww.dejavunaturals.blogspot.com

www.dejavunaturals.blogspot.com

Natural Hair Regime 2012

1. Deep conditioning

From the first day that I started my hair journey I have continued to deep condition my hair every weekend or at least every two weeks. I have used many different conditioners over the last year and more (almost two years) in my hair. My hair seems to really love deep conditioning treatments. Some weeks I will only do a 20 minute deep treatment other weeks I do 5 hours or overnight.

2. Products I use

Castor Oil, Olive oil, coconut oil, edge control, eco styler gel, shea moisture conditioning treatment, aloe vera gel, I use eggs for my protein treatments, natural shea butter, jojoba oil, hello hydration conditioner, argan oil products conditioner and shampoo, live clean products conditioner and repair treatment. These are things I have used in the last six months. If I do not have a product I tend to use what I have, I am definitely far from a product junky and when it comes to my hair, I try to only experiment with what I believe will work great for my hair and always test it out first. The last thing I want is to have any problems with my hair at this point in my hair journey. One of the many things I will be implement into my regimen is an ayurdedic hair care products.

Protein Treatments

When my journey first started my hair seemed to like nothing more than my conditioning and protein treatments. I find that almost two years into my journey My hair really does not like protein treatments as often as I would like, I try to do my protein treatments every 4-6 weeks. Depending on when I remember, I don't have a set schedule for it .

3. My wigs

The two pics posted above is both wigs, yes they are wigs and I love them both, I really enjoy my wigs as they make me feel great at experimented with different looks, I love changing my hair up and trying new things so these looks work out great. I made my first wig last year and ever since that moment I have been in love with the idea of being able to throw on any look I feel like for the day. I think the best part about wigs for me is being able to take it off at the end of the day or just wear my hair, try any style I want with my hair, and be able to change it in an instant. I love that I have access to take care of my hair the way I want. I have also done the XGOLDN inspired faux ponytail pics posted below

4.Living Healthy

Lately I have really been trying to get healthy more than ever. I try to eat healthy all the time and maintain a great diet, I workout at least three times a week, eat lots of fruits and water. It started last summer and I have also stayed away from sodium and sugars.

5. Trimming my ends

I prefer not to trim my ends very often maybe every six months or whenever I feel like it needs to be done, This week is the first time I have trimmed my hair since January or February I believe which is a really long time. I really did not need to trim my hair. I absolutely refuse to put scissors to my hair if I don't need to. I will spend my time detangling, removing knots, and then if I have to I will trim or dust.

Helpful tips

  • Always remember our hair needs moisture water water water
  • Make sure to keep you scalp clean, remove any build up from the scalp
  • Use natural oils to penetrate the scalp and hair.
  • For your scalp jojoba oil mimics our own natural hair oil called sebum and coconut oil is light enough it will not caused your pores to clog the way a heavy oil such as castor oil will.
  • Eat healthy, you are what you eat, that goes for your skin, hair, nails, teeth and everything else in between
  • Stay away from stress, try to relax and enjoy your life.
  • Be creative with your hair styles, you will be surprise at what watching a few youtube videos can do for you and your hair. There is no harm in trying new styles with your hair, you just might like it.
  • Remember to protect your ends at all time, they are the oldest part of our hair, try protective styles such as buns, braids, or twist.
  • Be gentle and kind to your hair, do not pull, tug and rip your hair out while combing or styling
  • Wear a silk wrap/ or cover your pillow in a silk pillow case at night to protect your hair
  • Remain patient with your hair it will grow and eventually all your hard work will pay off
  • Finally please do not compare your hair journey, whether it be natural, relax, or anything else you choose to anyone's else around you, on youtube, or anywhere else.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, leave comments and I look forward to responding to you all

p.s I am almost two years natural
Much love, bless!

1.5 Straightened Natural Hair (My journey)

Hey guys I been getting very bored with my hair, so a few weeks ago I decided to
finally straighten my hair. It was not completely straight but I really enjoyed just
seeing my progress and how far I have come I am definitely excited and having
lots of fun with my hair. Thanks for all the support.

 Q&A
1. First I deep condition my hair for a few hours using an organic conditioner
    mixed with natural oils
2.I then washed my hair with an organic shampoo and condition again
3. I used apple cider vinegar to for ph balance as I do every week.
4. I applied my leave-in on damp hair.

What flat iron did you use?
I used a flat iron I purchased from walmart CONAIR.

Did you blow dry your hair?
Yes I did lightly and not for long, I then flat iron, my hair was extremely soft.

How long have you been natural?
I have been natural my whole life but never really knew how to care for my hair.
I went on this journey after much research in june of 2010. I cut all my
damage ends from flat ironing sept 2010.

What leave-in did you use?
I use a blend of shea butter and natural oils that I make at home.

What oils did you use?
coconut oil, olive oil. jojoba oil, and castor oil. I have not used olive oil in a while, but
recently started using it again

When will you straigthen your hair again?
I will straigthen my hair for my birthday which is awhile from now. My two year
journey is on sept 2012 so by my birthday I should have a great amouth of growth
which is four months after.

What do you do to grow your hair?
There is no special tricks, I simply care for my hair. I deep condition once a week,
shampoo once a week, and have been doing the Green house Effect everyday for
the past three months. I use all natural or organic products in my hair. I do not like
to try many products I stick to shea butter and natural oils. I also detangle my hair
in the shower once a week. I cut my ends or dust whenever I feel necessary. I am
not scissor happy so I never just chop my ends off. If they are damage ends I get rid
of them. I do not do this very often. I am constantly wearing protective styles about
98% of the time. I will continue to do this until I achieve the length I desire.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask below! Thanks for watching

The Greenhouse Effect & My experience

www.dejavunaturals.blogspot.com

www.dejavunaturals.blogspot.com

What have I been up to with my hair?

Well I straigthened my hair last week, but I only kept it in for a few days. Although it was not
completely straight I didn't mind at all. Lately I been getting bored with my hair more often, I
would say every three months. However I know the importance of hair care and protective
styling to achieve the length I want. I am truly amazed with the progress of my hair, it's doing
amazing.

Yes y'all I have been doing the Green house affect and for me so far it is absolutely love at first try.
I have been doing it now off and on for over three months and my hair was grown so much. You
can check my hair growth challenge for 2012 CLICK HERE.

My Experience

I love the idea of creating a warm environment for your hair, because for me that's when my hair
flourishes the most. Over the past few months I have noticed that my hair has grown more with this
process than it normally would. It was very easy for me to begin this process since I used natural
products for my hair anyways, it just seemed to make sense to try it. I have notice my hair is
extremely softer, my ends aren't as brittle and the overall health of my hair is tremendous.

What I dislike?

What I dislike is the smell of my hair, I am so sensitive to smells that I find myself just covering my
hair. Since I wear wigs often to protect my hair, it's very easy to cover it up. I still deep condition
and wash my hair once a week. I find that whenever I miss a week my scalp seems to act up with
this process. I hardly use any oils in my scalp, I apply it to my hair but I still find that my scalp
becomes so irritated that I have to wash my hair once a week. I do use apple cider vinegar at least
once a week or every two weeks. To be honest with you guys I feel so guilty when I neglect my hair,
after a year and five months I owe it to myself to continue my journey and reach my goal hair length.

What I love?

I love the progress I am experiencing, I love the way my hair feels and especially love learning so
much on my journey. So far on my journey I have yet to really experiment with products or different
routines but this just seemed to make sense after much research and understanding of the process.
I am never one to jump into anything without understanding what it would do. Since I have done
much research on Sebum and creating a heated enviroment for your hair, I decided to try it and it is well
worth the try for me. I am excited to see where my hair will be at the end of the year.

What is the Green House Effect?

The Green house effect is a method in which you create a natural warm enviroment that enables
the natural oils from your scalp to help your hair grow. That natural oil would be Sebum,

Where do I start?

To begin your journey it is best to eliminate the process of using hair products that contain
chemicals and start using natural products to help your hair grow.

The Green House Effect : Directly from the site

Green House Effect was created by Meeka over at Real Queens Click Here

GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
  • On damp or dry hair apply a generous amount of JBCO or EVOO throughout your hair (or how ever much you
  • can tolerate) making sure to coat the ends in the oil to create a protective barrier against pollution, fabrics, dryness ect.
  • This regimen works well with various protective hairstyles such as bantu knot outs and braid outs, so once you’ve oiled your hair you can prep it accordingly depending on how you plan to style it the next day
  • Place shower cap or plastic bag over your hair to lock in the moisture from your scalps natural oils and heat from your head. This creates a green house, steam effect during your sleep which is the best time for your hair growth in this case.
  • Place a head tie/scarf over your head & shower cap making sure that it’s nice and snug; for best results also wear a winter hat over your scarf to help produce more heat.
  • In the morning you may find that your hair is a bit damp from the moisture the steam effect created.
  • You can either blow dry it on cool setting, let it air dry a bit (about 15 mins) before styling, or go ahead and style it while it’s still damp and let it dry as the day progresses.

  • * if you don't really care for the JBCO smell, you should definitely try the Shea Oil with Mango & Papaya it will make your hair smell amazing or you can simply use EVOO from your local grocery store, it's much cheaper!'

Update on My Natural Hair Journey

This was back in late September of 2010, I believe between September and October was the
last time I cut off any damaged ends. My hait was about 2-3inches. I have always been natural
but never really knew what to use or how to care for my hair. I was introduce to youtube by
a friend and never looked back. I have always loved hair, working in salons, doing shows.
I learned at an early age I had to do my own hair, besides I had no one else to do it.
I learned to braid, do weaves, twists, wigs and everything in between.
I can braid, weave, or do any style just by looking at it, am a very creative
person so it only comes naturally. The only thing I never learned that was
in between the styling...I had to learn to take care of my hair. I am glad I am
on this Natural Healthy Hair Journey.

To date I am please with my journey and 1 year and 3months later.
Here is where I am today...

I did the big Chop... but wait What do I do now?

I know the feeling of being natural and not knowing what to do with your hair. I was once in that
same position. When I cut my hair at the beginning of the year last year it was mainly because I was
so tired of the way it looked. It was breaking and I had no idea what to do. Thinking back, I actually
feel sorry for my hair it was years of damage, and I was natural too. I always just thought if I never
permed it, it would be fine, truth is, it is never okay to have hair and not take care of your hair.

I ended up cutting my hair and after covering it up for some time with weaves, I was intrigued at the
way my friend wore hers and eventually she explained to me about youtube and the natural community.
I must admit that same night I ran to my laptop and was glued to my computer.

Here is what I discovered:

Do your own research:

Books
magazines
Articles
Watch videos
talk to friends and family
trial and error

Over time you will become an expert with your hair care journey, and will also learn alot of
yourself. I found that In my year of being natural I have never loved my hair more right now,
keep in mind it is not an easy journey, I have had moments of lows but I stay positive

Stay Positive with your Hair journey

Talk good about your hair
Remind yourself why your on this journey
Stay connected with the natural hair community (online, friends, family)
Surround yourself with people that will motivate you (day to day life)
If you have no support with friends and family, keep in mind you are not alone there are great
motivation videos on youtube and always people to talk to you.
Try not to listen to what people will say to you, negativity is like poison.
Keep the haters far away

Pay attention to your hair

While your experimenting with products and I call it this because I did experiment to see if my hair
would like certain products, pay attention to your hair health.

How does your hair feel?
Is your hair very dry?
Is co-washing necessary for you hair? ( When I first started my journey I co-washed and washed did
it all, now all I do is deep condition once a week and do protective styles. I keep my regimen at this
very simple now)
Does this product had moisture to your hair?
Is it drying your hair out?
These are all things you will need to keep your eye open for...

Get to know your products?

Read read read and get to know what is good, and what is bad for your hair this will go
hand in hand when shopping for hair products and on your hair journey.

finding natural hair products on budget

Check out my page Natural hair Guide

What regimen will work best for you?

This takes some times getting into, well it did for me but whether you want to buy all your products or
make your own, As some of you may know I choose to make my own out of natural products. I do buy
my shampoo and sometimes my conditioner. I do make my leave ins, sometimes my deep conditioner
and hot oil treatments ( I haven't made a hot oil treatment in a few months)

Quick idea
Ayurvedic (I will do an article on this later this week)
Be creative with your natural styles, try hair accessories on an old style.

Commit to your journey?

If you say your going on this journey stick to it, learn and grow as your hair will learn and grow. I know
that it will definitely be hard but if whatever you choose to do whether it is relax or be natural you must
care for your hair. Your hair is as much a prize as you are.
