Basics of Hair Care

What to do?

Step one:

Prepare a healthy eating plan. If you are unsure what to eat google it. Google is great for that kind of stuff. Although I will provide a some ideas like always I advise you all to get to know what your body, hair or skin likes.

~ PROTEIN

Proteins are amino acids linked together, most commonly there are about twenty different kinds. They do provide different functions, help in digestion, aid in movement: your muscles, aid in your ability to see and provide structure to your ligaments, fingernails and hair. Lean meat, low-fat diary, nuts and beans.

~ Vitamin B

Vitamin B are eight water soluable vitamins that play an important role in cell metabolism. The most important of all the B vitamins is B7( Biotin) and B12. Biotin can be found in carrots, tomatoes, beans, nuts and oatmeal. Vitamin B12 is found in meats and diary

So why is Vitamin B imporant for you?

It is the most essential vitamin for your body, Below are a list of
functions:

source

~ aids in carbohydrate, fat anf protein synthesis
~ assists in hormone production
~ increases energy production
~ maintains a healthy nervous system
~ lowers cholesterol and triglycerides
~ Assist in the gowth of the body

Vitamin A

~ promotes strong, shiny hair and nails
~  can be found in sweet potatoes, carrots, leafy greens and squash

Other Vitamin to consider are::

Vitamin C- keeps hang nails at bay,
               - found in citrus foods such as orangesm beel peppers and strawberries

Iron - affects the structure of your hair
       - found in meats ad seeds

Zinc - prevents white spots on your nails and healthy hair
       - found in protein sources such as dairy, meats and eggs.

Step one:

~ Drink lots of water

Drinking water flushes your boby of toxins, chemicals and impurities that may stifle your hair growth and disrupt your hormone and enzyme imbalances. Water also transports the important nutrients your body needs throughout your body. It is necessary of the uilization of the water-soluble vitamins.

Step three:

~ Try to use all natural products to promote hair growth or you can make your own, by doing research and finding out what are some of the best ingredients to aid on your journey. If you do decide to buy products look for ones that have powerful essential oils, natural herds and vitamin rich nutrients. Make sure they do not contain harmful chemicals that will prolong your hair journey. For more on this refer to my article NO NO NO ``YOU CAN PUT THAT IN YOUR HAIR!!!

Advice:

Try not to use products that use natural extracts they arent as powerful. Dont be fooled by the labels pay close attention to cheap alternatives and ingredients. It may say all natural and still contain harsh chemicals.
On this journey you have to care enough about youself to care at all.

Stay Beautiful Naturals!!!

Calley Dub

Calvin “Calley Dub” Wigley was born and raised in East Toronto, growing up in East York, then as a young teen, infamous “Flemo Park.” Growing up, he always seemed to find his way to an empty piano, or more specifically, his aunt's organ.   His mom seeing that he was interested, enrolled him in an afterschool piano program and as the streets says it was a wrap from there. He went on to study classical/jazz piano with accreditation from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

He started making beats and singing, at the age of 16 with the DTP Recording Artists R&B group “Untitled”. Calley Dub added his musical touch to there first single, “All I Need”, which ended up being number one for four weeks on “OTA Live”. Calley Dub also produced the Unknown Misery’s, “Love is Love", which also made it on to the OTA Live Countdown.
Calley Dub has a diverse list of influences, from the musical arrangements of Stevie Wonder, the jazz stylings of Duke Ellington, miles Davis, the lyrical abilities of Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, to the production skills of DJ Premier, J-Dilla, Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, and Timbaland.

This diversity is exemplified throughout his music, with the ability to mix musicianship with lyricism.

NO NO NO "YOU CANT PUT THAT IN YOUR HAIR!!!

You can't put that in your hair!...Our hair is our crown and glory so why not treat it that way! Below are a list of ingredients that you may want to check for if you are naturals or going natural. Many all natural products contain harsh chemicals not suitable for our hair and may contain synthetic emulsifiers as well, so dont be fooled!.
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
Phosphates
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
These chemicals contain toxins that may dry and strip your hair of vital nutrient it needs to grow.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate:
-derived from coconut alcohols
-It is a surfactant which is anything that allows oil to mix with water which has a slight negative charge to it.
-It reduces the surface tension between it and water and is used in shampoos for normal to oily and oily hair.
 Surfactants to avoid:
- ammonium lauryl sulfate
-ammonium laureth sulfate
-sodium laureth sulfate
-potassium coco hydrolyzed collagen
-disodium laureth sulfosuccinate.

Isopropyl Alcohol:
-derived from pertroleum
-dry agent to your hair
-do not leave for long periods on you hair can strip hair and remove top layer of skin, which may cause infections.

Propylene Glycol Distearate:
-crystallized stearic acid and ethylene glychol which gives your shampoo that mother of pearl look and feel.
- thickening agent in hair dyes and shampoos and has humidifying effects on hair and scalp.

Disodium EDTA:
-chelating agent that gives shampoo products a stable look and feel to it.
-must not be left on the scalp for long as it has the ability to go deep down into the skin allowing for more chemicals to potentially reach the blood stream.

Cetearyl alcohol:
-Ceterayl or cetyl alcohol is made from coconut oil and is used as an emulsifier.
-makes your hair feel like velvet.
-cetearyl alcohol makes the hair feel silky smooth.
Parabens:
-they can be highly toxic
-can inhibit hair growth

So Good
These ingredients act as detergent for cleaning dirt, oil and debris from your hair, it provides great conditioning for your hair,  the foaming agent used in these products makes us feel like we are really cleaning the hair.bThey may make your hair feel soft, absord oils and make dry hair feel moist.
So Bad:
These are all chemicals that can be absorbed into the skin and hair. Many of the chemicals are the same used to make antifreeze and garage floor cleaners because of there base is petroleum or alcohol based.
It is up to you to make your own research and try these products to see the effects or benefits they have for you. I have chosen to go the all natural way but also do enough research to have a "lab at home" for my hair and skin care. However whatever you choose for your hair is up to you!!

Influences: Chopin, Beethoven, Stevie Wonder, Rick Wakeman, those are just some.
Keyz will collaborate with musicians, vocalist emcee's and those looking to bring something new to the Canadian music scene.

Music, that's my life and inspiration to success, as he simply puts it. His style is characterized by melodic Hip Hop beats with classic overtures, sweet sonatas that make you feel like your standing in the rain.

Although classically trained, he produces R and B and electronic, there is nothing that he can’t do. He's also been known to create sounds that would fit seamlessly into a movie soundtrack or play on your radio.

The man is talented, he has been called the male answer to Alicia Keys, but don't just don't ask him to sing.

Homemade Deep conditioning

Homemade Deep conditioning

In the last few months deep conditioning has been my go to, that and of course a good hot oil treament never hurts. There are so many various types of homemade treatments you can make to compliment your hair type. Try to choose one and stick to it, your hair will love it. Over the past few days I have introduce my hair to grapeseed oil by adding it into my deep conditioning.

So why homemade?

Well, like anything homemade you have the comfort of knowing what the ingredients are, although I do suggest you do your research on what the benefits and negaitives are for most ingredients. I personally use
natural organic products in my hair, but that is just what I prefer. I have also made it my job to know my ingredients by researching each one. Now am not an expert but I find comfort in knowing what goes in my hair. Many others do use products store brought for natural hair and there are many that do work. It is a personal choice to do so.  When I first began this journey and watch many women on youtube make their own conditioners, I enjoyed doing the same so I have stuck to it.

Instant Conditioners?

You're probably wondering what I mean by instant conditioners, I related to them as non-home made, non-pro natural hair conditioners. These are the ones that have silicones, they make the hair appear shiny, coat the strands but additional moisture is never able to reach the hair.

Why do you need a deep conditioning treament?

Black hair can become dry, fragile and dehydrated because of the lack of moisture in our hair. Now a conditioner will not grow your hair but it will prevent  shedding and breakage. This is the reason many naturals co-wash their hair once or twice a week. It will restore the sheen, softens the hair, and smooth the cuticle. Remember to pay close attention to your ends if you take care of your ends and wear protective styles atfer deep conditoning and washing your hair, a leave in daily conditioner to your ends will retain length.

What do I use?

For my hair I use avocado, olive oil, castor oil, aloe vera gel and most recently added grapeseed oil to the mix. I will be posting a video of these ingredients later on. I usually leave this on my hair for a about an hour or more. Sometimes for protein I use one egg in my hair, along with the ingredients. Now this may sound like an experiment but that's because it is. I did say am on this journey as well with many of  the newbie naturals. Am simply here to share what I have learned and am learning. I enjoy hearing what works for others because I do believe my regimen for my hair is different from yours and the next and the next. What remains is that just to name a few a good deep conditioning treament, essential oils, proper care of the ends of your hair these care advice remain the same. I am excited to see where my hair journey is going.

List of Homemade Deep Conditioners

Rosemary Deep conditioning

1 cup of olive oil
1 cup of rosemary leaves
1 plactis cap
Heat until it gets slightly warm, apply to hair and then place plastic cap on hair you can leave this on for 30 minutes. Make sure to remove excess oil from hair and scalp after the 30 minutes. Repeat this method twice a month.

Honet and Coconut milk

This mix will protect and hydrate the hair. Pour some of your regular conditioner (preferably one without sulfate and alcohol). Add some honey and cocnut milk. To make this concoction easy to apply to hair, leave it to sit for two days in the refrigerator. You will motice after two days it will solidify making it easy to apply to your hair. Massage your hair (never use your nails to massage your scalp, instead use your tips). Leave this treament on your hair for 40-45 minutes then rinse. You can repeat this treament every two months.

Olive oil and honey

1tbsp of olive oil
1tbsp of honey
1 plastic cap
melt the mixture in the microwave for one minute nad then stir, make sure it is completely blended. Section you hair so applying is manageable. With every recipe given make sure to spread it from roots to tips for even distribution. You can choose to sit under a dryer for 30 minutes or let it sit on your hair with the plastic cap and warm towel for one hour. Rinse and then wash.

Here are a few other ideas:

Coconut oil and Avocado
Olive oil and Banana
egg and olive oil

Solange Talks Natural Hair...2010

The Afro solange knowles hair 2010 hairstyle is an example of how you can use kinky weave to enhance your tresses. Solange has fashionable style and this year she is being different in her hair choices and explore the natural side. If you are transitionong this is a great way to see how you look with natural hair. Recently, Solange did a photo shoot and interview with Refinery 29 and stated the following about her hair:

What inspired the bold new ‘do? You mentioned you can no longer hide with that hair, has it changed the way you see yourself?
“When I was recording, I was staying in a house with five guys and two showers. I knew there would be a shower wait everyday and with my natural cropped hair, it’s mandatory that I wash it otherwise it gets stuck to my head like glue! I wanted to get something that I could literally roll out of bed without looking nuts. I watched so many Chaka Khan YouTube videos and became sort of obsessed with her during the process. I went to my stylist and said ‘Give me the fro.’ I walk differently now, sing differently; This hair has spirit and soul.”
